Spring Back To Vail and other end-of-season events arrive

By Caitlin Row | Monday, April 10, 2017

Off-season in Vail is looming, but there are still two solid weekends of skiing left on the books. That's good news for locals and visitors who are not ready to hang up their planks in favor of bikes and boats.

Beaver Creek Resort is closing this Sunday, and Vail Mountain set to shut down its winter offerings on Sunday, April 23. Here's the great news — mostly sunny weather is predicted well into next week. Temperatures will be hovering in the high 50s and low 60s. That's good enough reason to me to soak in some sunshine, preferably on the mountain.

With that in mind, here are my top picks for the week.

Springtime Revelry

The 13th annual Spring Back to Vail is Vail Mountain's well-loved springtime bash. The two-day event includes the World Pond Skimming Championships, live music, giveaways and more. The 123GO! Project is a Dave Matthews Band (Stefan Lessard) and Pearl Jam (Mike McCready) collaboration. They will perform Saturday, April 15, at Ford Park.

Beaver Creek Loves Kids - SpringFest continues through Sunday. Its two weeks of free performers, parades and contents will culminate with the 25th annual Easter Egg Hunt at Creekside Park on Sunday, April 16, starting at 10:30 a.m. Pond skimming is also set for Sunday at 3 p.m.

Vail Recreation District is hosting its own egg hunt on Saturday, April 15, from 9:30-11 a.m. It will be staged in Lionshead Village. The Town of Avon's egg hunt is planned for Nottingham Park from 10 a.m. to noon, also on Saturday.

Easter Brunch at Maya is planned for Sunday, April 16, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Pricing is $42 for adults and $15 for children. An Easter egg hunt, crafts and visits with the Easter Bunny will start at 11 a.m.

Head to the daytime and nightlife calendars for more spring activities.

Vail Things to Do This Week

Comedy Night at the BowlMor (The Back Bowl in Eagle) is planned for Saturday. Hippieman will headline the event, with Aaron Urist as the opener.

Frost, a beautiful bar complete with snow/ice ambiance, hosts a DJ every Friday and Saturday night from 9 p.m. until midnight.

On Monday, Vail Symposium will host an educational talk called "Living Amidst Nuclear Nightmare: A Chill in the Air." The event is planned for the Grand View in Lionshead.

Nominate Mom for Mother's Day Getaway

The Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa at Beaver Creek is doing something pretty cool for Mother's Day. It's giving away a relaxing, one-night getaway on Saturday, May 13, to a mom. The gift includes breakfast in bed, a spa treatment, a yoga class, a gift basket and more. Friends and family are invited to nominate a mother by telling her story for a chance to win. To enter the Mother's Day content, submit your essay (300 words or less) to info@spaanjali.com by Friday, April 28. The winner will be announced May 3.

If Mom is into a relaxing day of spa treatments, Spa Anjali at the Westin is offering another fun Mother's Day deal. In April and May, they are doing a 50-minute massage or facial for $99 or a 75-minute massage/facial for $125. Check it out!

Mother's Day is Sunday, May 14. It may seem a ways off, but it's a good idea to start planning. Stay tuned for more ideas in the coming weeks.
