Six Blood Marys Not to Miss in Vail

By Morgan Allman | Tuesday, March 3, 2020

Bloody Marys are one of those things that can either be really great or really not so great. They are also one of those things that people either really like or really do not like without much indifference. Personally, I love a good Bloody, especially a spicy one that can, in effect, take the place of a meal. I took the liberty of taste testing throughout the valley, and here are my accolades:

Ein Prosit, Hippest

This German-style Bloody Mary brings together Colorado vodka, spicy mix and a splash of pickle juice for an ultimate, delicious concoction. Fully embracing the current pickle trend, it’s also garnished with classic cornichons.

Chophouse, Bougiest

With slope-side locations in both Vail and Beaver Creek, find this Bloody sporting the typical celery and olive, along with peperoncini, candied bacon, shrimp and a crab claw piled high above the tomato juice cocktail.

Vintage, Most Variety

If four different house Bloodys and three types of vodka don’t get you excited for brunch, then I don’t know what will. Some of the garnishes found on these seasoned rims include salmon, candied bacon and stuffed olives. Oh, and did I mention the sidecar that comes with the Chicago Mary?

Kirby Cosmo’s, Fullest Flavor

Packing a punch, this Bloody carries a bold, smoky palate followed by a slight, peppery kick and includes a secret ingredient. And all of that's in addition to the bacon, fried shrimp and Old Bay rim which accompany this flavor explosion.

Maya, Most Exotic

When a Mexican kitchen tackled a classic American cocktail, a beautiful creation called a Bloody Maria was born. Replace the vodka with serrano-infused tequila, add a house-made base and a spicy rim and boom. Bloody Maria.

Westside Café, Grandest

If volume is your goal, Westside should be your destination. Get some serious bang for your buck with a 20-ounce Bloody and an entire skewer packed with little bites. As if that wasn’t enough, enjoy the Fat Tire Sidecar that comes with it.
