Vail Village has been a flurry of activity, but not with the foot traffic one normally thinks of in peak visitor times.
Instead workmen have been busy sprucing up various establishments spanning nightlife spots and hotels. Now's a quieter time that's perfect for this type of thing.
That doesn't mean the village is shut down, however. When we went to Sundae (for, you guessed it, an ice cream treat) this past Saturday, a line was out the door. Plus, plenty of stores, restaurants and bars are still open and offering deep discounts for those who are sticking around.
With that in mind, here are my top picks for Vail Valley This Week.

The Four Seasons Vail Staycation package is a pretty amazing off-season deal going on right now. The Four Seasons Resort and Residences Vail (in the village) is offering rooms starting at $150 for those living in Eagle, Summit, Pitkin and Garfield counties. That's quite a discount for a resort hotel known for its luxury pricing. This offer will run through May 21.
Montauk Seafood Grill, which is in Lionshead Village, was recently advertising 50 percent off entrees from 6-9 p.m.
La Tour Restaurant and Bar in Vail Village is giving 40 percent off all dinner entrees and 30 percent off select bottles of wine. Plus its lunch entrees are all $13.95.
Terra Bistro, located inside Vail Mountain Lodge, is offering half-off entrees as well.
Things to Do
This Friday, May 5, I suggest heading down valley to Eagle's 7 Hermits Brewing Company for Yappy Hour. This dog-friendly social hour is advertised as an event for people who love dogs and veterans. Bring your well-behaved dog and enter to win a door prize and an all-summer-long silent auction (click here for information on what you might win).
Also this Friday, Vail Village's Vail Brewing Company location will host live music by The Allen Thompson Band.
Maya in Avon will host Vail Derby Party on Saturday, May 6. Ladies, wear your best hats! Derby attire for men and women is required. Celebrants will sip on mint juleps and enjoy the Kentucky Derby while supporting Children's Garden of Learning in Vail.
Looking Ahead to Summer
Last week I talked about a variety of events happening around the valley in June (click here to read). Here are more ideas.
The Vail Farmers' Market and Art Show kicks off on June 18 and will run Sundays in Vail Village through Oct. 1. This super fun (and tasty) event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. See you there!
The Vail Bluegrass Summer Series is free Wednesdays at Arrabelle at Vail Square. Dates include June 28 (Bluegrass Generals), July 5 (Chatham County Line), July 12 (Donna the Buffalo) and July 19 (The Lil Smokies).
Bonfire Brewing's ShowDown Town concerts kick off June 29 and run Thursdays at Eagle Town Park through Aug. 10. These free concerts begin at 6:30 p.m.
