It's officially spring! Things to do around Vail Valley this week

By Caitlin Row | Monday, March 20, 2017

The vernal equinox arrived on Monday, and with it came predictions of rain along with mild temperatures for the Vail region.

Now's the time to enjoy spring skiing in Vail, then head down valley (think Eagle and Gypsum) for early season mountain biking. Just remember – wait for dirt singletrack to dry after rain to avoid trail damage. I was in Eagle and Gypsum over the weekend and noticed plenty of trail users out enjoying the pleasant weather conditions.

As it's still Spring Break season, a lot of events are planned for all of the visitors throughout the valley.

Here are my top picks at Vail Valley This Week.

Pink Vail

The annual Pink Vail event lands in Vail on Saturday, March 25, with nearly 3,000 participants expected. Pink Vail is an all-day event featuring live music, deck parties, a costume contest and much more. This fundraiser benefits Shaw Regional Cancer Center, a cancer-treatment center in Edwards. Money raised supports improvements to patient care and the Spirit of Survival program, which offers all patients access to complimentary exercise training, nutrition coaching, emotional support, massages, acupuncture and more. This year's fundraising goal is $750,000. At the time of this writing, $472,525 had already been raised. If you're coming to town for this event, Vail Mountain Lodge is offering a Pink Vail lodging package. Check it out!

If you need an indoor escape, consider sampling spirits or wine in Vail Village.

Visit 10th Mountain Whiskey & Spirit Co.'s tasting room to sip on moonshine, whiskey, bourbon, vodka and cordial (hopefully not all in one sitting!).

Root & Flower is offering a tasting class, Same Same But Different: Chardonnay, from noon to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28. Its knowledgeable staff also pours quality wine by the glass on a daily basis at the bar. Food options are offered as well.

Just remember – please drink responsibly.
