First Week of 2018 Brings Events and Hopefully Snow to Vail Valley

By Caitlin Row Stoner

A bustling holiday season has come to a close around Vail and Beaver Creek. That doesn't mean the fun stops, however.

Weather predictions call for clear skies, sunshine and moderate temperatures early on. Clouds will likely move in on Friday, January 5, with snow showers on the books for this weekend. More snow is predicted later in the 10-day forecast as well.

That's good news because Vail and Beaver Creek ski resorts need more snow. It's been a dry start to the winter, but hopefully Mother Nature will be more forthcoming in 2018. We're counting on it!

With that in mind, here are my top picks for Vail Valley This Week.

Events This Week

Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek has three shows coming up: Broadway's Next Hit Musical on Friday, January 5 (update: this event will be rescheduled due to East Coast storms); The Whiffenpoofs (a Yale a cappella group) on Sunday, January 7; and an Evening with JD Souther on Tuesday, January 9.

Live music is planned all weekend at The Red Lion in Vail Village, 10th Mountain Whiskey and Spirit Co. in Vail Village and Splendido at the Chateau in Beaver Creek.

The Icebreaker Free Snowshoe Tour and Base Layer Demo with Walking Mountain Science Center is planned for Saturday, January 6. Pre-registration is required.

DJ Stennor will perform at Root and Flower Wine Bar in Vail Village on Sunday, January 8, starting at 10 p.m.

Fun Around The Valley

Enjoying ski season isn't just about mountain conditions. Seeking out Vail Valley's favorite après-ski spots is part of the winter experience. I suggest Terra Bistro's daily Happy Hour in Vail Village and Gore Range Brewery's daily Happy Hour in Edwards. Check out our list of Happy Hours and Dining Promotions here.

It's a busy time of year so dinner reservations are a must (especially if you're looking to dine at favorites like Sweet Basil and Mountain Standard). Check out our valley wide restaurant listings here.

Alpine Arts Center continues a busy calendar of activities, including its Cocktails and Canvas events. Check out the full calendar here.
