February in Colorado's Vail Valley is all about love – and skiing (duh). This year Valentine's Day falls on Tuesday, Feb. 14. Being a school night and all (unless you're on vacation), I suggest planning a weekend activity or making V-Day a week-long celebration.
A Secret Garden, offering florist services in Vail Village, is a good option for ordering a flower arrangement befitting winter romance. Deliveries are made to Vail, Avon, Beaver Creek, Minturn and Edwards. Another date idea is checking out Root & Flower Wine Bar, a Vail Village restaurant with a spectacular wine list. More ideas for Valentine's Day week are listed below:
Enjoy Mexican Food
A casual night out at one of Vail Valley's numerous (and tasty) Mexican restaurants is made even more pleasurable with a specialty margarita. Fiesta Jalisco, located locally in Avon, is one of my favorite spots for an impromptu dinner out. I love the Enchiladas de Mole dish. Tacos de Pascado (fish tacos) is always good, too. Maya, found in The Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa at Beaver Creek Mountain, offers Mexican cuisine with an upscale twist. There is also a tequila bar and outside patio.
Boxcar Restaurant and Bar, also in Avon, isn't a Mexican restaurant. That said, I've been told the margaritas there are amazing. The House Margarita features El Jimador blanco tequila, agave syrup, cinnamon/jalapeno syrup and an Orange/ salt rim. This specialty drink is $8 normally and $5 during Happy Hour.
Check out Kemo Sabe in Vail Village for specialty cowboy boots, hats and jewelry. There are some beautiful bracelets and rings in a glass case right by the door (if you're hoping to go the jewelry route). The boots are pretty spectacular as well. There are a lot of statement pieces for sale.
Another option would be to head to the Bookworm of Edwards, the valley's only bookstore, for a Valentine's Day gift. Besides the obvious (books), the store offers keepsakes, specialty candy, candles and more. Support your local bookstore by finding that special way to say I love you.
