A December Chill Is in the Air Around Vail Valley This Week

By Caitlin Row

Brrrr. It's definitely getting colder around the Vail Valley this week. When I woke up this morning, the outdoor thermometer read 6 degrees.

Highs will hover in the 20s and 30s through Thursday, with snow showers predicted for Thursday as well. Then temperature highs will likely raise up into the 40s this weekend with lots of sunshine. As of now, weather next week looks pretty dry.

Despite limited snow around the valley, holiday activities are popping up full force.

With that in mind, here are my top picks for Vail Valley This Week.

Events This Week

I'm a big coffee enthusiast, so Walking Mountains Science Center's upcoming class, The Science Behind Coffee, sounds pretty cool. It's this Thursday, December 7, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Vail Snow Days, which is the signature kick-off event to ski season, begins on Friday and runs through the weekend. Free festivities include live music, an expo village, family-friendly activities and more!

Bonfire Dub: The Doors will perform live music at Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek on Saturday, December 9. The show begins at 7:30 p.m.

Santa Brunch is planned for Maya at The Westin in Avon on Sunday, December 10. The event is planned from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. It includes breakfast favorites, holiday desserts and complimentary valet parking. Santa and the world's tallest elf named Ralph will both be in attendance.

We've definitely entered the holiday shopping season. Gift-giving and celebrations are imminent. New winter gear options are available all over the place! Check out things like winter jackets and ski goggles at Bridge Street Ski Haus in Vail Village. There's a lot to choose from spanning a variety of price points. A stylish gift (like sunglasses) from Eye Pieces of Vail is sure to delight (and it will likely fit in a stocking!).
